I am a proud and happy mother now for almost a year, taking care of my baby, enjoying motherhood to the fullest,” says Sumedha. Then the frozen eggs were taken to the lab, developed into an embryo and planted in the womb. Some investigations related to the uterus and other gynaecological examinations were done. Doctors retrieved my eggs after complete examination of vital parameters like the quality of eggs, the ovarian reserve or the eggs that I could generate during my reproductive cycle, the egg counts and so on. We then approached our doctor and opted for egg-freezing after knowing about the process (pros and cons) in complete detail. We actually wanted to provide quality time to our baby and enjoy parenthood, something which would have been impossible given our tedious duty. Given the pressure and complexity of the job, we mutually decided to expand our family later, and thus planned for cryopreservation of eggs (egg freezing). During our initial days onboard, our life was nomadic and mostly seaborne, an assignment lasting up to eight odd months on a ship.
